Be more than one thing

I am so happy today because of an enlightening article.
The title reads: You Absolutely Must Be More Than One Thing
The words put a smile on my face and I did not even have to finish reading the whole thing to feel very happy. When I was in school, I have always been the ‘average’ student, not because I do not like studying but because extra-curricular activities appeals to me more. I really like to explore various things and learn new things. Others may criticize me and say things like: ahh, why are you going for art classes? You can’t really make a living out of that in the future? Or why are you learning about cars when you are not pursuing to be a mechanic?
I appreciate it when the writer of the article said that to most people “specialization” indicates accomplishment and success. “we are too good to specialize because we all possess a variety of skills which maybe we may not be aware of”. He also added that no matter how successful we are in one pursuit, we have other skills we would enjoy developing and using. How awesome is that? It is certifying that being interested in various things is not a bad thing at all.
However, I do not mean that we have to be “jack of all trades”. The important insight here is not to be afraid to try new things and explore your hidden potentials. The process of learning new things and the knowledge gained from it could be a valuable asset in your career even if it seems to be totally unrelated.
